LCHS Omid for Girls Club Garage Sale Fundraiser
LCHS Omid for Girls Club Holds Garage Sale to Fundraise for Afghan Refugee Families in LA Area
This past summer, Omid for Girls’ La Canada High School (LCHS) chapter held a garage sale with the Refugee Education Support Club (RESC) to fundraise for backpacks and school supplies for Afghan refugee families in the LA area. Omid for Girls and RESC partnered with the International Institute of Los Angeles (IILA) to donate the school supply kits to the Afghan families for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year.
Members of the community donated books, school supplies, old clothes, slippers, toys, and old tennis rackets. One person even donated an old bike, and another a mini fridge!
People from all walks of life stopped by the garage sale. One customer, who happened to be a middle school teacher, obtained 30 books for her new classroom! A grandmother bought books and old clothes for her granddaughter. Adorably, a little girl beamed at her purchase of fruit-scented rainbow pens.
In total, the LCHS Omid for Girls club and RESC raised a total of $215 that will be used to purchase 24 sets of backpacks, notebooks, folders, pencils, and erasers for the Afghan refugee community in LA. These school supplies will be assembled into backpack kits at the next club meeting. Stay tuned!
